How to reduce your exposure to database loss

Backups ... backups ... backups.

All computer hardware will fail - eventually.

You are also exposed to possible electrical problems, errant software and operator errors. Taken together, these exposures raise the probability that you will suffer a computer failure at some unpredictable (but never 'right') time. When it happens you will want to be prepared to recover your operations as quickly and effectively as possible.

H2OS itself, through programming conventions, does help in some important ways (audit trails, backup and restore software), but the road to a successful recovery really begins with your physical backups. Not only should they be taken regularly, but they should also be stored off-site and tested regularly, as backup media is also subject to failure.
