Note: now, with the availability of UltraVNC Single Click (SC), the simpler mechanics (see the support page and the JAVA interface) achieve remote connections without the need to install UltraVNC in many cases. Now installing UltraVNC is needed only in cases where the other methods either don't work or can't be used for any reason.
1. For remote console support. VNC allows us to share your or own screen for demonstrations and problem solving.
2. You can also use VNC to remotely access your office computer from another Internet connected computer, at home or elsewhere, giving you Internet based access to your H2OS installation
VNC is the basic mechanic used by H2OS Customer Support for establishing remote console connections.
VNC itself was originally developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) and made available to the public domain. Because using VNC in the 'raw' required technical expertise and because there were opportunities to expand it's usefulness, several products have been created the "shell" VNC to provide the user with a simpler interface and more features. These products have names such as UltraVNC, RealVNC etc. We've tested several variants and selected UltraVNC as the product most closely suited to our needs, but others work as well.

"UltraVNC is an easy to use computer program
that can display a screen of another computer (via internet or network)
on your screen. UltraVNC will allow users you to use their mouse and keyboard
to control the other PC remotely. It means that you can work on a remote
computer, as if you were sitting in front of it, right from your current
location.
If you provide computer support, you can easy access your customer's computers
from anywhere in the world and resolve helpdesk issues remotely! Your
customers don't have to pre-install software or execute complex procedures
to get remote helpdesk support.
UltraVNC software allows you to remotely control a computer over any TCP/IP
connection. UltraVNC emulates the destination computer to make it look
as if you were in front of it."
There are different versions of VNC available. We have selected the UltraVNC version. For technical information about UltraVNC, the best and most current information about UltraVNC is on their own website at http://www.uvnc.com/index.html
